My wife Fran and I first filed our funeral instructions with Keeney & Basford in 1997. The following year, the agency caregiver for one of our daughters required us to have a pre-need funeral contract, pre-paid, so we made these arrangements with Keeney & Basford as well. Then on Christmas Eve 2000 in northern Virginia, a grandson tragically died at birth. When I brought him to Frederick, we were met by Richard Basford, the embodiment of caring and compassion, and under his guidance our grandson was buried in our family plot at Mt. Olivet. Just three years ago Fran and I firmed up our pre-need financial arrangements with Keeney & Basford, and then on Memorial Day this year, 2026, unexpectedly one of our daughters-in-law died in her mid-40s. A call to Keeney & Basford was quickly returned by John Reitz, who methodically led us through some unusual circumstances to ensure that her expressed wishes were honored. Is it any wonder that we would turn to Keeney & Basford time and time again? Ryan and his staff were amazing guiding us through the process of preparing for and attending to my mother's funeral. Their caring and understanding in our very tough time made everything that much easier. Even the staff who delivered all the funeral flowers to our house between the service and the luncheon were wonderful.

Working with the folks at Keeney and Basford after the passing of my wife was extremely satisfying.. They were right on hand to answer all my questions and provide needed support. Their personnel continue to provide guidance as needed for which I am extremely grateful. I will definitely have them handle my own arrangements at my passing, and am even now in the process of arranging.. They arranged everything with great care to have my wife interred in another state with great efficiency. My personal thanks to John and the K&B staff, you made a very difficult time easier to endure. My thanks to all the folks who have strived to make the whole process bearable.

I had a very good experience with Keeney and Basford. Since I had no experience with funeral planning before, the staff gave me the hand holding I needed and made me well aware of everything that needed to be done. They were also able to coordinate many different things for me. Another funeral home in the area that I called during this time basically sent me a booklet and told me to look through it and call them back with what I want. This was not helpful for me, and therefore I appreciate Keeney and Basford taking those extra steps to assist me.

I cannot say enough good things about John Reitz and Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes. I am not local but had the task of burying my very dear family member. Mr. Reitz was professional, responsive, consoling, and most helpful. He listened to what we wanted and worked miracles to make everything fit into our very tight time frame. All along the way, he was compasionate and understanding. I highly recommend Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes and John Reitz in particular. Kenney & Basford was so wonderful to our family as we handled a very difficult time in our lives. They were compassionate and professional. My mother in law didn’t have to worry about anything as the services were handled with grace and dignity. Could not have been a more seamless process. I appreciate that they worked with us to make sure everything went smoothly and accepted my MILs life insurance as payment. It eased the financial burden on our family at a very difficult time. They were professional, kind, and attentive. As far as cost it was pretty comparable to other places we called, but again, they were super easy to work with and we were super happy with our choice. In the end would chose them again! Thanks guys!
